I can’t believe I put all that effort in to being elected on to the prom committee! What a waste of time! They may as well have asked a bunch of fifth years to organise it.
Jenny and Darren are heading up the decorations committee but they have no clue. They walk around like they’ve been commissioned to redecorate the palace of Versailles and don’t seem to have cottoned on to the fact that our budget is not unlimited. I seem to have to spend most of my time trying to sway a no vote against their hair brained schemes. Do you know what they suggested today? They’ve found someone on ebay willing to hire them a lion to stand at the entrance. A LION! Ridiculous!
Katy has really come through with the venue though. Her Dad does a lot of business with a local hotel and she’s managed to book their converted barn at a discount. They do loads of weddings in there and so they already have fairy lights along the beams. Of course Jenny and Darren (who don’t like anything unless it costs a lot of money) tried to pass a vote to say that we wouldn’t use the lights because it was too ‘Colleen and Wayne’. They were totally outvoted.
We also got the photographer sorted out (finally ☺). About four companies said they would do it for free and all acted as if they were doing us a favour. But we know that it was only free because they knew they would get loads of business from people buying prints of the photos. Anyway, they were all pretty eager so I asked them how much they would pay (or rather ‘donate) to be the only photographer at our prom. The winning company offered £200 – so that’s another £200 we’ve got to play with!
But all of this is of course totally unimportant because I still don’t know who I’m going to go with. Can you even imagine being on the prom committee going to prom ALONE. Horrendous.
Michael was following me around again today. I’ll never have a chance with anyone as long as he insists on telling everyone that we are destined to be together. He hasn’t asked me to prom yet but I know he will. That would be awful. Especially if its anything like the valentines day incident. The memory of him bent down on one knee, outstretched arm holding an ‘I love you’ teddy is burned on to my brain. So embarrassing!
I’ve thought about emailing Jack to ask him to go with me (just as a friend of course). It’s been ages and we always used to have a laugh together. I haven’t heard from him much since we went to secondary school. It’s such a shame his Dads job was relocated. 120 miles is not that far, but being in different schools is like being in different worlds. It seems crazy; one minute your best friends and then next you hardly know each other any more.
I’m putting all my hope on the new boy who is due in to my class next week. Let’s just hope he’s nothing like the last new boy who has just been suspended (AGAIN) for the same reason as last time (except that this time his hair was blue and he’d painted his bum red).
